Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Following a childhood living in New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature at The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell started her career as a journalist for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. Mitchell was hired by the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. Two years later she became General Correspondent at NBC News in Washington. In 1981, she began reporting on the White House. In 1988 she was promoted to chief journalist for Congress. Then she was named chief White House correspondent in 1992 and chief foreign affairs reporter in 1994 for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell appeared as both a host as well as a panelist on the TV news show Meet the Press. Mitchell was on the panel at the debate in 1988 in the 1988 debate between George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell won the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005, which was awarded by the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg Award in 2004 for her work to protect First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began covering the White House for NBC News from 1981-1988 during both of Ronald Reagan's terms as President. Mitchell reported on a wide range of interesting stories such as arms control the budget tax reform and the Iran-contra saga. She traveled extensively with President Reagan to summits together with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world leaders.
